New DJ's pay attention

Because digital age changed the DJ Game forever, it's easy for people to pick up the interest in becoming a DJ. But just because you are able to handle midi controllers and Virtual DJ does not necessary qualify you as a Real DJ. I was always taught to respect the art of a DJ because it's not as easy as most people think. I learned from real DJ's, and each one of them told me that anyone can play music, but it's how you program the music and how you control the crowd, and as a real DJ you should be able to jump on any type of set, whether its vinyl, cdj's or midi controllers. Its amaze me when DJ's that are just starting out say they are real DJ's and if there laptop crashes they don't know what to do and they are screwed until they get there Mac's or PC laptops fixed. DJ's always have backup's...I'm only 25 but I love using Vinyl and I always carry a crate of records with me just in case my computer wants to act funny and I have to reboot it. And if I am using cdj's, I will bring a CD book with me for the same scenario because you do not know what will happen. Yeah I maybe doing a old school set until I'm back up and running, but my job is to not lose that crowd.

If you are an up in coming DJ actually fine DJ's in your market that been in the game for years and learn from them. If you don't know anybody then look up DJs such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mick Boogie, Q-Bert, Beat Junkies, Kid Kapri, the list goes on and on. The names I just mentioned, are still in the game today and they are doing what they can to continue to spread the true art of a DJ, I hope one day I will be able to do the same thing.
