Atlanta-based rapper Matrell brings a high-energy flow, slick bars and bags of charm to the Gen Z hip-hop landscape.
Born to a Black father and mixed-race mother (with French, Italian, Lebanese and Ivorian roots), Matrell began making music in eighth grade, crafting beats and recording songs after school. He credits his music producer father for encouraging him to make music: “My dad had me in front of the piano before I could even walk. I’d go to the studio with him as a kid. He taught me how to make beats. I gravitated towards it, realized it came naturally to me, and I kept going.”
Since he makes his own beats, records his own vocals and pens his own bars, Matrell belongs to the self-made legion of multi-creative artists making music on their own terms. The ambitious young rapper says: “I like growth in my music. I always wanna get my ideas out. When I make a song, I’ll usually start out making the beat, and out of nowhere, the rest will come to me.”
The future is bright for this ambitious young rap star. Matrell’s debut single, ‘Birkin’, is now available at his website (www.matrell.world) and on all streaming platforms from August 13th.
Matrell's been making waves with his fire new track "Hit My Line," which has the streets on lock. But there's more to this 22-year-old than just a catchy tune. His lyrics are deep, real, and straight from the heart.
Growing up with a music producer for a dad, Matrell was always surrounded by the game. But it wasn't until his cousin put him on to the likes of J. Cole and Kendrick that he really caught the bug. From there, he started studying the greats, from Biggie to Young Thug, and crafting his own unique sound.
When it comes to "Hit My Line," the story behind the track is just as dope as the song itself. Matrell came up with the idea while livestreaming on TikTok, making the beat and lyrics on the spot. By the end of the stream, he had over 200 people vibing with him, and he knew he had something special.
But Matrell's music isn't just about the hype. His lyrics are a reflection of his life experiences, from moving around as a kid to learning how to put himself in other people's shoes. He wants his fans to know that no matter what they're going through, they can make it through by staying true to themselves.
In the studio, Matrell's process is all about the vibe. He lets the beat guide him and the words flow naturally. And with a new project dropping this summer, you can bet he's cooking up some heat.
As for being a role model, Matrell keeps it real. He knows he's not perfect, but he wants to inspire others to be themselves and focus on the good in life.
So there you have it, folks. Matrell is the real deal, and he's just getting started. Keep your eyes and ears open for this one – he's about to change the game.
