Jaye Valentine was destined to have a life in music, as her mother plays piano, her father sings, and all of her relatives are members of musical ministries. This Texas beauty began piano lessons at 8 years old, sang with her church choir, and listened to blues, gospel, country and R&B growing up. Jaye had her first acting role before she was in kindergarten, but her family didn’t take her seriously as a singer. One day she surprised her father by singing at home. He was so impressed, that he spent all night helping her with pitch, harmonies, and proper breathing technique. That turning point for Jaye developed into the beginning of a career singing with girl groups.
At thirteen years old, she found herself in a recording studio and touring around Texas singing in clubs. The group, called Begét, were close friends who opened for rappers Big Moe and Mystikal. This tween queen performing group covered R&B, Rock, Alternative and Hip-Hop. Their big break was opening for the legendary Temptations in their US Tour. From that group to one called Embrace, Jaye stretched her repertoire of styles to include Jazz, Soul and Gospel. As practical as she is intelligent, she also took time out to become a graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. No ordinary artist, Jaye put energy into playing basketball, joining the musical productions in school, and becoming a cheerleader.
Jaye’s solo career began with a record called “Back on Elm Street” backed by the Harold Johnson Sextet in 2008. She then followed up with a Soul and Jazz inspired album, entitled “Flavorlicious” that yielded sales nationally and abroad in Europe.
Jaye recently released her new single entitled “Alter Ego” and performed it in New York City at the Core DJ Retreat in November 2015. She captivated the audience with her charismatic stage presence and energetic moves.
How does a girl with so many different styles in her arsenal of music choose a direction for her formidable talent? According to JQ Records’ President Harold Johnson Sr., “Jaye is so versatile; she can sing any genre of music.”
Jaye is now working on her EP to be released in second quarter 2016.
