Arshad Good (@Arshad_Goods) reworks Black Sunday EP, rhyming about love, injustice, and hope

(October 18, 2016-- St. Louis, MO) Arshad Goods, the 28 year old rapping phenom who was studying for a master’s in electrical engineering when he decided to fulfill a dream by creating an album, released a revamped version of his Black Sunday EP. Goods examines duality, love, and class and race in the album which is divided into three sections: Black, Sun, and Day. He added the songs “Everybody” and “Resurrection” to continue telling his story, which would be perfectly cast as the accompaniment to the new FX Show Atlanta which also centers around the lives of young black men trying to survive and make it in America.
Goods stated, “This project was me figuring out my sound and who I am as an artist. I wanted to expand the album to include sounds that I’m incorporating and branching out into. I play with duality and flipping sounds and words back and forth to demonstrate different perspectives.”
Goods fearlessly and earnestly explores St. Louis and name checks police brutality, Mick Jagger, and Mike Brown with a fluidity and speed that blurs the lines between love and hate. Sometimes his lyrics aim right for the heart like “Tell Her Lies (with Jai Gaines)”, other times they hit the gut like on “Fear No Man”: “Went to college came home and swore I hate my city, really it was how they paint my city”.
His soulful music thrilled a sold-out audience at the 2016 Riverfront Times Music Showcase, and Arshad toured in the Midwest and the South earlier in 2016 to rave reviews. Arshad’s most recent acknowledgement was by the St. Louis Post Dispatch, recognized as one of 2016’s Rising Stars. On October 21, he will be playing the new Delmar Hall at 8pm along with Mvstermind, J’demul, and Dante Wolfe.
