NEW ARSNOVA EP BY 1200 FUSES HIP HOP, CLASSICAL, AND STRUGGLE
1200 released “his latest masterpiece” (LEO Weekly), Arsnova, on June 1st, 2019, fusing his love for hip hop with his classical training all while narrating the African American struggle. Every track on Arsnovaaddresses a specific social, cultural, or political issue from “Gentrification” to “Youth” and beyond.
1200 is an award-winning educator, musician, and community organizer from the West End of Louisville, KY. He earned the nickname “1200” after teaching himself to produce hip hop on a KORG D-1200 digital recording studio at age 12. A decade later, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music Education at the University of Louisville. You can hear his teaching throughout Arsnova as he raps data, history, and stories based on true events.
Arsnova was premiered live in the neighborhood 1200 grew up in, Parkland, one of the poorest in Kentucky and the same neighborhood Muhammad Ali was born in. 1200 helped organize a celebration for Ali’s life after his passing in June 2016 and has aligned his mission as an artist with Ali’s mission as an athlete — helping those in need. The concert premiere was a part of a neighborhood revitalization and co-sponsored by a nonprofit 1200 founded. 1200’s community work also includes advocating for equity in public education and teaching at an HBCU.
You can hear Arsnova on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Google Play, and other streaming services. 1200 can be followed on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @1200LLC.
