WITH A VERSATILE &UNIQUE SOUND, RAPPER/SINGER AK47 IS HERE
TO SHAKE THE RAP GAME UP!
HILLSIDE, NJ – Pursuing music as a teenager, rapper AK47 never thought he’d make it this far: “Me and my friends were just being us, messing around and dissing each other. It was meant to be taken as a joke but my friends all saw the talent and I started to take it seriously.” A few short years later and he has an arsenal of songs proving this isn’t just a hobby.
In our first talk with AK47, or “AK” as he is known to close friends, we immediately jumped into his background and how it influenced his decision to pursue music. “Being at the park and playing ball, at home on my sisters’ iPods and TV’s, hip-hop was everywhere … I most definitely grew up on it,” AK47 said. “As I got older I started really listening to and discovering different artists. Some of my favorite rappers growing up were Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, Ludacris, 50Cent, Ying Yang Twins, Mike Jones, and Nelly.” Although a fan of artists across the hip-hop spectrum, AK was particularly drawn to Southern rappers. He admits, “I’m from the East Coast, but I loved the energy and vibe from the South. From the women, to the way the rappers carried themselves- I was mesmerized by their style.”
After giving up a college scholarship and facing years of stop-and-go progress, AK was in search of a producer who could help him stay true to his early hip-hop influences, while still daring to explore new sounds. Eventually, he linked up with Fabian “Picasso” and the two learned to play off of each other’s skills and artistry to form a partnership all hip-hop fans should take notice of. Their first project, “Brown Paper Boy,” set to release late 2018/early 2019, is a high-energy EP with a list of impressive tracks. The lead single “Lil Mama,” is a club-banger and clear homage to everything he’s always loved about Southern rap, complete with a music video of sexy women to match. On the same EP you will find a completely different sound in the rock-inspired head trip, “Ape Shit,” ft Tekashi69. This collaboration, amongst others with contemporaries such as Famous Dex and Rich the Kid, confirms AK’s rightful place amongst his peers as a new artist commanding respect.
During our last moments speaking with AK47, the charismatic 22 year-old made sure we knew the impact he hopes to make on hip-hop: “As one of the few Indian-American rappers in the game, I know I stand out, but I’ve got big plans for this dream of mine.” He’s armed with talent, focus, and most importantly, the tough resolve needed to make it in the rap industry. We have no doubt AK47 is here to stay with no plans of letting up any time soon.
